How It Started
How It Started
Rachel Rothenberg-Saenz and Alexandra Baylis, once department heads at Oscar de la Renta, teamed up in 2020 to start Welles. Their goal? To support frontline workers with stylish, eco-friendly work clothes. Welles set out to address issues in the fashion industry by pushing for better solutions for people and the environment. Welles makes scrubs from biodegradable materials that are sourced from ocean-bound plastic. The founders are working to launch a closed-loop system, where customers can send in old Welles pieces to be recycled into something totally new. Welles also has reusable bio-based compostable packaging and is a member of "1 Percent For the Planet”, where each organization donates 1% of total profits to environmental causes. They have factories in the U.S., Asia, and Central America, all of which are OEKO-TEX certified and committed to high employee standards.These include childcare, transportation, and career advancement opportunities. In a world where fashion often overlooks its environmental footprint and the well-being of its workers, Welles hopes to be a beacon of change. Rachel and Alexandra's vision for Welles is clear: to redefine the industry by combining style with sustainability. Every stitch sewn is a step towards a better future.

What is your return policy?
All returns must be postmarked within 30 days of the purchase date. All returned items must be in new and unused condition, with all original tags and labels attached.
To return an item, place the item securely in its original packaging and attach the return label.
After receiving your return and inspecting the condition of your item, we will process your return.

Is the fabric used in the scrubs breathable/sweat wicking?
Our state-of-the-art fabric is engineered to enhance performance much like athleisure. The natural fibers in our fabric allow it to feel supremely soft and breathable, while the durable eco-polyester wicks moisture away from the body keeping you cool and dry. Terral-X is finished with a Bluesign certified antimicrobial finish that ensures our scrubs are odor resistant.
What is the fabric breakdown of the scrubs?
Our proprietary fabric, Terral-X, is made from ocean-bound plastic that is recycled and infused with a breakthrough biomimetic technology called CiCLO™ to form a new performance fiber that will biodegrade at the end of its life-cycle. CiCLO™ is a safe and effective, nature-based solution to mitigate synthetic microfiber pollution. When added, fibers remain ultra durable and high performance, yet in STARK contrast to the the main negative quality of standard polyester, won't remain in our environment forever through inevitable washing processes and at the ultimate end of its life-cycle. We combine this with supremely soft and breathable viscose (a renewable cellulose) and super stretchy spandex (you still need to move!), to make a fabric unlike any other. Fabric content is: 73% CiCLO™ Recycled Polyester // 23% Ecovero(TM) Viscose // 4% Spandex Elastane
Is the fabric used in the scrubs stain resistant?
No, to make a fabric stain resistant or water repellent, it must have a special finish that uses toxic “forever” chemicals called PFAS. Linked to numerous health concerns including cancer, liver and heart disease, these harmful chemicals run off from our laundry cycles and enter our water systems, forever persisting in our environment. Welles is committed to creating responsible, high performing products that don’t jeopardize the health of our community or environment, for that reason, we do not use any materials containing PFAS in our products.
Are the scrubs true to size?
Size guides can be found on the product page of a specific item. Our core items include both a size and fit guide, outlining both the measurements and general fit of the garment. Model sizes can be found in the "size and fit" description on each product.
For a relaxed fit, Welles scrubs run true to size, for a tighter fit, choose one size down.

We donate all of our imperfect garments to charity in order to minimize waste. We believe that we are creating high quality garments that are made to last a lifetime. When it comes to our supplier base, we have a Supplier Code of Conduct in place that is aligned with ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work as well as the Ethical Trading initiative. We have short term goals and long term goals we are working towards, such as a totally circular closed product loop.
