Welles began in the heart of New York City during a time of crisis. In 2020, founder Rachel Rothenberg-Saenz—then Head of Product at Oscar de la Renta—was deeply impacted by images of frontline workers without proper PPE. She launched a nonprofit overnight, retooling NYC's Garment District to produce and donate gowns to healthcare workers in need.

That experience sparked a deeper realization: the scrubs worn by healthcare professionals every day were uncomfortable, poorly made, and environmentally toxic. Welles was created to change that.

We make high-performance uniforms from biodegradable materials that break down in years, not centuries. Every piece is OEKO-TEX® certified, made without harmful chemicals, and engineered for comfort. Our trims and packaging are recyclable or compostable, and we're working on a closed-loop program so nothing goes to waste.
